Blue birds, smiling at me...
I love it when things work out, don’t you? These bird canvases are one of my favorite finds of the past year. I found them at Pier One for a reasonable $30 each, so I brought them home, thinking I would use them in my dining room. Unfortunately, they weren’t quite right there, a fact I only admitted to myself after months of seeing them hanging on the walls. Sometimes when you really adore something, it’s hard to admit it’s not working. Part of the reason I didn’t want to admit it was that I had no other place for them in the house. I didn’t want to get rid of them, but I didn’t know what to do with them. So they continued to hang in the dining room until a couple weeks ago. I took them down and decided to put them in the bedroom, but they didn’t really go there, either. It finally occurred to me they might work on the porch. Why I didn’t think of it before, I don’t know.
Originally, I had two old window frames leaning against the wall of windows on either side of the table above. I placed the two bird prints in front of them, liking the way they looked set against the old windows. Then a friend came by and exclaimed over how perfect they were on the porch and suggested I hang them off the old window frames. That sounded interesting to me, so I tried it and loved it. I then decided to take off some of the green pillows and accents on the porch and replace them with teal blue pillows I had to help tie the prints to the porch ~ the bright teal looks wonderful with the yellows and purples and bright pinks. It’s all very cheery. And sometime in the next couple of weeks, I’m going to paint an old mantel that same bright teal and put it on the opposite wall on the porch ~ it’s going to be fab. And then there’s the shell mirror... more on that later.
